It has been our effort and endeavour to try and help the underprivileged people of the society in whatever small way we can. We appreciate that our efforts may not end up removing poverty, but it will at least help a few such individuals realise their dreams.

Anil Sethy born in Chandepur, Orissa, was one of the countless Indians who could only possibly dream, but never get an opportunity to fulfil his dream. This had nothing to do with Anil's competence or sincerity; it was that he was born into a lower income family in one of India's most under developed states. Anil couldn't pursue his education beyond his 10th standard in school. In search of a livelihood, Anil travelled hundreds of kilometres from his house to Goa only to take up the job of a security guard. This job paid him minimal salary and involved long working hours - sometimes 16 hours at a stretch spanning a day and night. To supplement this income, Anil washed cars in the wee hours of the morning. The long working hours took their toll on Anil and he gave up his security job only; now he was back to a point where he had no job and hence no income.

It is ironical that in the one of the fastest growing economies in the world, where the IT industry is grappling with severe manpower shortage, people like Anil can only admire the IT offices but not work in them.

As a test case, we adopted Anil and decided to make him employable in the IT industry. This was a tough task for someone who had never touched a computer before. The company sponsored Anil's 3 month basic computer education course in a local computer institute. During this period, Anil was paid a stipend so that his basic day to day needs were met. Once he finished the basic course, he was given a computer at the sapnagroup office and taught the basics of internet and email. Thanks to the time sacrificed by our employees over weekends and after office hours, Anil was trained to design HTML layouts. This included the fine bits of HTML, usage of graphical software like Adobe Photoshop. More than 8 months from the day we adopted Anil, we absorbed him as a full time employee with sapnagroup.

Today, Anil is our main HTML designer. He is still learning; he has enrolled for a typing class to increase his typing speed; he is improving his written and spoken English. Learning is a never ending process, but what gives us the satisfaction is that today, Anil can look forward to fulfilling his dreams which once seemed impossible. We wish him the very best and pray that we can hopefully groom more Anils with time.
