Jonny Hubner’s stem cell donation

It’s not every day you get the chance to save somebody’s life! When Jonny got a call from the DKMS* that his tissue characteristics match that of a patient urgently needing a stem cell transplant (usually a leukaemia patient) he got HIS chance.

Talking about chances: The probability that the tissue characteristics of two unrelated people match ranges between 1:20,000 and far above 1:several millions! After taking drugs for 5 days so his body produced more stem cells and two ambulant sessions in Nuremberg hospital they managed to extract enough stem cells from his blood for the transplant (see photo). It was so easy!

The patient is a 45 years old woman in England. Only after three months Jonny will find out if the transplant actually worked and if the woman has a chance to be cured. We all at sapnagroup keep our fingers crossed!
