In Germany, the apprentice system has a long tradition reaching back into the middle ages. In fact, there are still businesses in Germany which you can run only if you are a master of that profession or if you employ one. Some examples are carpenters, butchers, bakers and also car mechanics or hairdressers.

Apprenticeships usually last for 3 years and are split into practical and theoretical education. Apprentices have to attend special schools either 1 day a week or 1 week a month, where they are trained mainly in subjects relating to their profession.

In recent years, new professions in the IT area have been added and our first apprentice, Christopher Jakob, has started his 3 year apprenticeship in September 2008 as "IT Systems Trader" (IT-System-Kaufmann).  He will work in our German office, meet clients in the UK and hopefully at the end of his apprenticeship will be able to make a trip to India to meet his colleagues there.

In Germany it is very hard to find a job without a university degree or a finished apprenticeship and every year the industry is urged by the Government to take on apprentices. sapnagroup is proud to be able to do its little bit in this area!
